This term we have celebrated Children's Mental Health Week and Safer Internet Day. These two things are strongly linked: Cyberbullying increases a child's risk of developing depression; excessive screen time has a negative effect on a child's mental health, and negative social pressure, found on social media sites, can impact negatively on a child's self-esteem. It is so important to be aware of the online dangers and help educate and protect our children from these risks.
RELATE (children and young people's mental health service Leicestershire and Rutland) are visiting school during March and April to carry out workshops for all of our children, to talk about the benefits of ensuring our mental health stays as healthy as our physical health and how we can improve our emotional resilience. The sessions included interactive discussions and engaging activities to teach children how to identify early warning signs of anxiety and coping strategies.
Fundraising is pivotal to our school, and we rely so much on the generosity of parents supporting these events. One of our upcoming fundraising events is Bags2School. Bags2School is a company that help recycle good quality, second hand clothing. If you have the chance of a good old spring clean, then bag up your unwanted items (clothing, paired shoes, handbags, belts, and accessories) and drop your bags off at the front of our school by 9am on Thursday 11th April. The heavier the bags the more Bags2School pays our school! A great way to fund raise and clear out at the same time!
This term, children in Ash Class enjoyed a trip to the Melton Library for a music and oracy session with "Beatfeet"! The children experienced drumming, dance, and well-being workshops, exploring communication through music. Children also had the opportunity to explore the library, sign up for a library card and borrow books. They loved it!
Children in Ash and Oak Class enjoyed a trip to the Leicester Central Mosque. They were shown around the Mosque; learned how Muslims pray; The Five Pillars of Islam; Islam communities and the fact 800 or more Muslims attend the Mosque each week for their Friday workshop.
We have so much more to enjoy before Easter arrives, including Parents' Evenings, a Roman Day trip, and Red Nose Day!
